I just stumbled upon these two crazy West Virginians (I think) and their messy podcast, The Messy Game Room. They have a fun perspective on gaming and both play some wargames...which I like. One plays ASL and the other plays Command Decision: TOB.
They are not safe for the children, but like the crazy guys from Stevens Point Wisconsin, Point Hammered, I get this distinct feel this is how these guys talk when they're just hangin and playing games.
I'm not sure how to say this without sounding like a complete tool: when initially listening to both podcasts, with their language, talk of beer drinking, and other off color topics, you might think these goofballs don't know what they're talking about. But both have cool insights into their respective hobbies. And they both make me laugh at their stories and views.
The other podcast is brand new and is called The Millers Tale. This is going to focus on miniature gaming. His sound quality is really nice and he offers some cool perspective on context in miniature gaming.
I really appreciate the time these guys put into these.
And again, I'm going to hype up my charity water campaign that ends April 28th - help us provide water to 50 people for $1,000.

Don Greenwood Regrets ASL?

At about the 30 minute point he says that he really went the wrong direction when he decided to do ASL because games were going the other direction, smaller and quicker playing. And the fact companies were producing more and more games. And he thought this was the best way to compete with what was out there at the time because of it's detail etc.
He lived in the office for 2 years creating it and it never approached making a profit.
Fascinating to think about.
It's a great interview and I get what he means, but it will be interesting to get others' thoughts.
Guns, Dice and Butter is on itunes as well.

Some Shout Outs - Podcasts and YouTubers
Thank you TheJoeyBerry for inspiration to create this particular vid - more shoutouts and positive vibes for YouTube - go watch, listen, sub the following-

Listen to The History of World War II Podcast - http://worldwariipodcast.net/wordpress/
This podcast is basically a one man show where he reads like crazy every book on a particular subject and then retells it to the listener. He does it in a casual manner as though he were just telling a friend about it. I think of it like he's done a huge research project. He just finished the Battle of Britian. It took him 8 months and 19 episodes. He also does a great job of including both high level political, military views. As well as ground level perspectives.
He also just held a "talk" episode with the creator of the podcast below. Here, the guest asks the host questions to clarify things and delve into areas not previsouly covered. A nice touch and change from the monologues. It all makes for good commute listening.
Listen to When Diplomacy Fails Podcast - http://whendiplomacyfails.libsyn.com/
Similar to above, this host (really should get their names) does researches the biginnings and causes of lesser nokmnown wars. I've just learned about "The Second Punic War, The Franco Prussian, and The Russo Japanese wars. Lesser known to me because I've been so focused on WWII.

Insight into Miniature Business
3 recent podcasts have recently had great podcasts featuring interesting stories on how the miniature business works:
D6 Generation interviews Neil Fawcett of Spartan Games talks about resin miniature manufacture.
Today, I just hear Episode 39 of WWPD (What Would Patton Do) podcast talked to John-Paul of Battlefront miniatures about the game, some cool stories how the business was started (No matter the business, I really like these kind of stories - but anyway...), and what's coming from BF in the future.
A couple things he spoke about that surprised me - They are creating a Gladiator game. And they are creating starter box sets to help people get into the game. Battlefront knows their marketing and sales.
Kudos to the WWPD guys in getting those scoops.
The last podcast is from Mantic Games and the again give some interesting insight into the future for their Kings of War series.
Especially to the first two, thank you to all the fans that create these great blogs and podcasts. Also, thank you to companies like Mantic for being open to sharing what they're doing at their company.

Must Resist Another Game
Continuing from the last post where I was visiting all the cons I couldn't go to, I learned more about a couple of new games that are tempting...
Dust Warfare, mainly because the models are very cool and pre assembled. Though, I can't imagine I'll go through with it because of the scale - 28-30mm. But they are cool. The following picture is from the Fantasy Flight Website - go check it out:
The other one I learned of, Hawk Wargames (not much to see here, just a splash page), when I heard Neil's second Salute episode on the Meeples and Miniatures Podcast. HW has created a 10mm Sci Fi miniature game called Dropzone Commander. Sounds like it's going to be expensive to get started. So I may not play, but these miniatures are incredible. My 9 yr watched the video below and said, "Those would be fun to paint."
The following photo is from the Mr. Bug Man blog - go check out his post on this to see more pics.
Here's the Beasts of War interview of the creator of Dropzone Commander:
All that said, must resist the calling for another game.
Also, posting will be slim for the next 2-3 weeks because of my work with Geekway to the West as the Volunteer Enwranglement Officer + other duties as one of the board members. There's still time to register for this boardgame con featuring 4 days of 24-hour gaming fun.

"New" World War II Podcast
New to me anyway. This guy, Ray Harris, Jr, I believe a history major, started a podcast on the history of World War II. It's an interesting way to hear the history. He's basically a guy that's done a lot of research and then shares his "report" with us, the listeners.
He covers a lot of the basics that many of us would know, but also tries to get some more detail that we may have missed in our reading. In addition, I've focused my reading in certain areas of the conflict so am not clear on many other areas.
What's cool is that his style is such that he's just telling us what he's read, so he's not perfectly polished and will sometimes summarize and make editorial comments that seem out of place, but ultimately make it a fun way to listen. It's a great way to pass the commutes. And as a WWII nerd, it's like nirvana.
There's not much specialized on WWII in podcast/gaming podcast land so this is a nice addition.

Give him a listen and rate him on iTunes.
Oh, and HAPPY PI DAY ALL YOU FOLLOWERS!
